Born in 1950 in Porto, Portugal. Visual artist, PhD in Painting from the University of Porto. Held 22 solo visual arts exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions (in Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambique, European countries, and São Tomé and Príncipe). Emeritus Professor at the Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto (FBAUP). Director of FBAUP (2014/2018 term). Integrated Researcher at the Institute of Research in Art, Design, and Society (i2ADS), member of the Board and of the Scientific Council. Co-Coordinator of IDENTIDADES_Colectivo de Acção/Investigação (ID_CAI). Foreign collaborator in Research Groups ‘Ensino da Arte em Contextos Contemporâneos’ at the Universidade Regional do Cariri, Brazil-CE, and ‘Grupo de Pesquisa em Arte, Museus & Inclusão’ at the Universidade Federal da Paraíba, Brazil-PB. Reviewer of the European Network 29: Research in Arts Education, European Educational Research Association, since 2013. Supervisor of postdoctoral studies (8 completed), doctoral studies (26 completed), and master’s studies (43 completed). Participation in doctoral and master’s thesis committees as an examiner in Portugal, Brazil, Spain, and Cape Verde. Ongoing editorial activity, including publishing books, chapters, and articles in national and international journals. Extensive participation in scientific events. A multifaceted career through various paths, seemingly dispersed but connected by a transversal attitude of critical anti-discriminatory intervention.
